david horowitz.jpgOctober 20, 2004, Greencastle, Ind. - David Horowitz, a liberal-turned-conservative author and analyst, will come to the DePauw University campus, Tuesday, October 26. Horowitz, whose new book is entitled Unholy Alliance: Radical Islam and the American Left, will speak at 4:30 p.m. in Watson Forum of the Eugene S. Pulliam Center for Contemporary Media. His appearance is sponsored by DePauw's College Republicans.

The editor of FrontPageMagazine.com, Horowitz is widely known for opinions he expresses on national television programs like Nightline and Crossfire and makes frequent visits to college campuses across America.

In an October 15 appearance at Georgetown University, Horowitz "said the American left is sabotaging the war on terrorism and working towards the destruction of the country," according to an article in the Georgetown Hoya . The student newspaper reports that Horowitz told the approximately 50 students who gathered for the presentation, “The left doesn’t care about dictators. The left cares about destroying America. The left hates America.” The author took aim at critics of the war in Iraq, suggesting that filmmaker Michael Moore has committed treason against the USA. “Treason is when your country is at war and you want the other side to win,” he said. “Michael Moore is rooting for the enemy.”  President Bush, argued Horowitz, has liberated millions of people. “It is a war in which it is difficult tohorowitz-book.jpg understand how anybody who is decent, who believes in human rights, who believes in women’s rights, who believes in equality and freedom, could not support it. How can you not support this war?” Read the entire article by clicking here.

David Horowitz's other books include Left Illusions: A Political OdysseyDestructive Generation: Second Thoughts About the 60's and How to Beat the Democrats and Other Subversive Ideas. He earned a Bachelor's degree from Columbia University in 1959 and a Master's degree from the University of California at Berkeley in 1961. Publisher's Weekly writes, "While most kids his age were outside playing baseball, young Horowitz was attending Communist rallies and parades. During the '60s Horowitz stayed true to his radical roots, becoming a prominent leader of the New Left. But when a close friend was murdered by the Black Panthers, Horowitz sank into a pit of personal and political despair. After a 10-year exile from politics, he finally came to grips with what he now saw as the inhumanity of his radical life and committed what was considered the greatest betrayal (he has been called a Nazi and a "demented lunatic"): he became a conservative."
