Esther Reece Painter '57 Elected to Connecticut House of Representatives

December 5, 2004

December 5, 2004, Greencastle, Ind. - Esther Reece Painter, a 1957 graduate of DePauw University, "was sworn in November 16 as representative for the 50th District of the Connecticut House of Representatives to fill an unexpired term," notes today's edition of Indiana's Richmond Palladium-Item. Rachel E. Sheeley writes of Painter's DePauw degree, and adds, "She previously served on the staff of Connecticut congressman Sam Gejdenson, specializing in environmental issues, campaign finance reform and constituent affairs. Painter was elected November 2 by 13 votes, out of nearly 11,000 votes cast, to fill the unexpired term. She lost a bid on the same ballot in the election for a full two-year term by just 40 votes."
