Women's and Men's Basketball Teams Open Tournaments
December 29, 2004
December 29, 2004, Greencastle, Ind. - "The DePauw University women's basketball team will look to get back to its winning ways on Wednesday in the first round of the Amy Hasbrook Memorial Tournament at the Lilly Center," writes Jason Moon in Greencastle's Banner-Graphic. Sponsored and hosted by DePauw the tourney "will feature the Tigers, Earlham, Anderson and Thomas More. DePauw will face Earlham in the first round of the Classic Format Tournament, beginning at 6 p.m. Wednesday."
DePauw enters the game ranked #6 in the nation with a 7-2 record; 1-0 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. The tournament honors the memory of Amy Hasbrook (seen at right), a 2000 DePauw graduate who was killed in a February 2002 fire (read more here and here). "We wanted to make it an annual tournament and name it after her," says DePauw head coach Kris Huffman. "She was such a wonderful person and player."
The men's team is also in action at 5 p.m. today vs. Emory in the Tampa Bay Shootout, which you can also hear on WGRE.
