Sixth-ranked Tigers win 10th of season

January 3, 2005, Springfield, Ohio - The sixth-ranked DePauw women's basketball team improved to 10-2 on the season following a 65-61 win at Wittenberg. The host Tigers dropped to 5-6.
Amy Argetsinger led the way with a game-high 21 points and a team-high seven rebounds, while Sarah Zondor (pictured) added 16 in the victory. Kathy Hittle paced Wittenberg with 14 points and 10 rebounds and Emilie Schmid added 11 points.
DePauw built an early 11-2 lead before the hosts whittled it back down to two at 13-11. Wittenberg briefly took the lead before the teams went to the intermission tied 28-28.
Wittenberg opened the second half with a 6-1 run in the opening minute to take its largest lead of the contest at 34-29. DePauw responded with a 21-7 stretch that started with 12 straight points by Zondor including a three-point play and three consecutive three-point buckets.
Megan Miller hit two free throws and then a jumper with 4:53 left to cut the DePauw advantage to 56-55, but the Tigers hit seven of eight free throws to take a 63-58 lead with 13 seconds left. Ellie Stonecash knocked down a three-pointer with nine seconds left, but Caitlin McGonigal sealed the victory with two free throws with nine seconds remaining.
DePauw outscored their hosts 19-8 at the charilty stripe, but were outrebounded 42-33 as Wittenberg grabbed 20 offensive rebounds and held a 20-14 edge in second-chance points. The Tigers did scored 21 points off of Wittenberg's 15 turnovers, while Wittenberg managed just eight points off of DePauw's 17.
DePauw returns to Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference action on Friday, January 7, when it hosts Oglethorpe at 6 p.m.
