11th-ranked DePauw falls to 14th-ranked Trinity

January 14, 2005, San Antonio, Texas - The 11th-ranked Tigers battled back from a 22-point deficit to within six points, but host Trinity held on for a 79-65 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference victory. DePauw dropped to 12-3 overall and 3-1 in the SCAC, while 14th-ranked Trinity improved to 12-2 and 3-1.
Trinity used a 12-0 first-half run to turn a 27-19 lead into a 39-19 advantage. That lead reached as many as 22 points at 46-24 before DePauw scored four straight to trim Southwestern's halftime lead to 46-28. Trinity shot 64.5 percent over the first 20 minutes while holding DePauw to just 31 percent from the floor.
The hosts still held a 56-38 advantage before DePauw rattled off a 14-2 run to close the Trinity lead to 58-52 with 9:18 remaining. The Tigers got no closer than six the rest of the way and Trinity hit 10 of 13 free throws over the final 1:38 to seal the win.
Jenna Smith paced Trinity with 18 points, while Tara Rohde added 14 points and 13 rebounds. Amy Howe followed with 12, Lauren Andrews added 11 points and six assists and Jennifer Farrar scored 10. Amy Argetsinger led DePauw with 18 points and 10 rebounds, while Sarah Zondor added 13 points.
Trinity shot 48 percent for the game after hitting jsut 31 percent in the second half, while DePauw finished with 35 percent. Trinity outrebounded DePauw, 49-33.
The Tigers travel to Southwestern for a 2 p.m. CST contest on Sunday.Back
