Tigers battle 16th-ranked Trinity before losing

January 14, 2005, San Antonio, Texas - DePauw was within six points of 16th-ranked Trinity with just over one minute to play, but the host Tigers scored the next four and held on for a 73-65 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference victory. DePauw dropped to 8-6 overall and 2-2 in the SCAC, while Trinity improved to 11-4 and 3-1.
DePauw led throughout the first eight minutes of the contest, but Trinity took the lead for good at 26-24 with just under seven minutes to play. Trinity led at the break by a 34-32 count.
Trinity used a 6-0 run to take a 44-36 just six minutes into the second half. The hosts still led 66-51 with 6:37 remaining before Todd Capes hit a jumper, Alex Stewart knocked down a three and Steve Schott hit a bucket to make it 66-58 with 3:42 remaining. The Tigers got within six at 69-63 when Stewart hit a three with 1:10 left before Trinity pushed the margin to double digits in the closing minute.
Sean Devins led five Trinity double-digit scorers with 19 followed by Jason Morris with 14, PEter Murray with 12 and Andy Bates and James Lake with 10 apiece.
Stewart scored 17 to lead DePauw, while Schott added 14 and Reid Sakel scored 12. Schott grabbed a game-high eight rebounds, while Murray paced Trinity with seven. Devins blocked eight shots for Trinity.Back
