Senior Evan Kennel, the SCAC Male Swimmer of the Year, earned a trip to the nationals with a time of 1:51.76 in the 200-yard backstroke preliminaries at the SCAC Championships last month. Freshman Katie Doogan, the SCAC Female Swimmer of the Year, turned in an NCAA automatic qualifying time of 2:06.41 in the 200-yard backstroke final, a time that broke the conference championship record.

"Division III DePauw has been a perfect fit for Doogan, who coming out of high school, wanted to continue swimming competitively, but at the same time stressing the importance of academics," writes Jim Toth in Michigan's Rochester Eccentric. Doogan tells the newspaper, "I was looking outstate because I've moved all my life as part of a military family, and so staying close to home was a big thing. I was looking at katie doogan.jpgMiami (Ohio), but I didn't know about swimming D-I. I looked at DePauw because it was similar, just D-III. It's prestigious academically and the atmosphere with only 2,500 students is great."
