Lilly Endowment Scholar and Basketball Standout Coming to DePauw

May 5, 2005, Greencastle, Ind. - "I went down and spent the night and played with the guys," Derek King, a senior at Southside High School in Muncie, Indiana tells the Star Press of his decision to attend college and play basketball at DePauw University. "We really clicked. Everything just really clicked. It was just a blessing to find a school like that."

The Muncie newspaper notes, "King was honored as the Delaware County winner of the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship, a scholarship that pays for four years of college education. King averaged 16.8 points a game for Southside and had a GPA of 3.47 on a 4.0 scale. DePauw was 12-13last season."

DePauw head coach Bill Fenlon (seen at right) is quoted: "We are excited fenlon.jpgabout having Derek. He is a pretty exciting player. Even at his size, he can really score the ball. We have a real need at the point-guard position. We are looking for some guys to come in here and to play right away."
