Sixth-ranked DePauw advances to NCAA second round

May 7, 2005, Granville, Ohio - The sixth-ranked DePauw women's tennis team improved to 16-6 after a 5-0 win over Washington (Mo.) in the first round of the NCAA Division III Championships at Denison. The Tigers take on eighth-ranked Denison on Sunday at 1 p.m. EDT for the right to advance to the national quarterfinals.

The Tigers won all three doubles matches as Liz Bondi and Jill Anderson defeated Lauren Zwick and Erin Fleming by an 8-2 score at number one. Claire Ellis and Amrita Padda beat Erica Greenberg and Becky Rovner at number two by an 8-5 count and Alex Nelson and Connie Shim defeated Kacie Cook and Ashley Cook 8-1.

The match was then played to a decision as Liz Bonti defeated Zwick at number one singles 6-1, 6-0 and Shim beat Ashley Cook at number six by a 6-1, 6-3 score.

DePauw improved to 16-6, while Washington finished its season at 9-9.
