'List' of Angie Hicks '95 Reaches 200,000 Members in 27 US Cities

October 5, 2005, Greencastle, Ind. - The entrepreneurial venture founded by Angie Hicks, a 1995 graduate of DePauw University ten years ago has reached another milestone. Angie's List, a consumer advocacy company, now has 200,000-members across the nation. "Angie's List provides reliable, unbiased ratings and information on local contractors and service companies based on the real-life experiences of its members," notes a news item at Inside Indiana Business. "It's this word-of-mouth network that is the secret to Angie's List's strong growth."
Now operating in 27 American cities, Angie's List receives more than 5,000 reports each month from its members. "It's more than just contacts and phone numbers," says Hicks, who began the business just after graduating from DePauw. "When you are looking to hire a company, you want to know if they have the expertise to do the job you need done. Our members can get detailed information -- online or through our call center -- on what other consumers in the area hired a specific company to do, what they thought of their work, and even whether they would hire the company again."
For the past three years, Angie's List has been among the "Inc. 500" -- the magazine's annual list of the fastest-growing privately held companies in the nation. By year's end, the company will launch "Angie's List Tips," a 60-second syndicated feature that will air on radio stations across the nation.
