DePauw and Wabash "Both Carry Plenty of Momentum" Into Saturday's 112th Monon Bell Classic
November 9, 2005
November 9, 2005, Greencastle, Ind. - "The Little Giants and DePauw both carry plenty of momentum into Saturday's game," writes Matt Wilson in a Crawfordsville Journal Review preview of Saturday's sold-out 112th Monon Bell Classic. "Wabash is coming off a 52-0 win over Denison, giving the Little Giants the outright North Coast Athletic Conference championship for the first time since 2002. DePauw claimed a share of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference crown with a 60-21 win at Rose-Hulman."
Wilson continues, "The Tigers have already guaranteed themselves their best finish since going 8-2 in 1997. The last time DePauw finished the regular season with one loss came in 1996 when the Tigers capped a 9-1 campaign with a 31-13 win over Wabash."
The game, which will be televised nationally on DirecTV Channel 321, has a "can't miss" label attached to it. "The last time Wabash and DePauw entered the Bell game with a combined one loss was in 1982, when the Little Giants were 9-0 and the Tigers were 8-1. Wabash won that contest 31-6. The year before, Wabash entered the final game of the regular season with an 8-0 mark, while DePauw was 8-1. The Tigers won that contest, 21-14, denying the Little Giants a playoff bid."
