DePauw's the preseason SCAC pick and ranked in two national polls

DSC_5993.jpgNovember 17, 2005, Greencastle, Ind. - The DePauw women's basketball team, coming off a 23-6 season, are the favorites to win the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference and are ranked in two national preseason polls.

In voting by the conference's 10 head coaches, DePauw totaled 97 points including nine first-place votes and are the favorites to win the 2005-06 SCAC title. Rhodes was picked second with 82 points and one first-place vote, while Trinity was third with 80 points.

Rounding out the 10 spots are Sewanee, Hendrix, Rose-Hulman, Southwestern, Millsaps, Oglethorpe and Centre.

DePauw finished atop the SCAC regular season standings last season and second in the SCAC tournament. The Tigers earned a bid to the NCAA Division III Championship and posted the program's eighth 20-win season in the last nine years.

The Tigers are also ranked in two national preseason polls as they are 19th in the USA TODAY/ESPN Top 25 poll and 22nd in the top 25 poll.

DePauw opens the season on Friday, November 18, when they travel to St. Louis for the Washington (Mo.) Tipoff Tournament. The Tigers open against Illinois Wesleyan on Friday. Back
