Tigers drop season opener to Ohio Northern

November 18, 2005, Albion, Mich. - Despite a career-high 32 points by Alex Stewart, DePauw dropped its season opener by a 74-66 count to Ohio Northern in the opening game of the Greater Albion Chamber of Commerce Tournament. DePauw faces Albion on Saturday at 2 p.m. The Britons lost to Michigan-Dearborn by an 88-77 count in Friday's second game.
The Polar Bears jumped out to a 12-point first half lead before the Tigers put together an 18-4 run to take a 28-26 lead on the way to a 36-35 halftime advantage. DePauw extended the margin to five early in the second half by scoring the first four, but Ohio Northern went on a 14-3 run to take a 51-43 advantage.
The Tigers later tied the game at 57-57 on Stewart's three-pointer before the Polar Bears another 14-3 run to put the contest away.
Stewart hit 11-of-19 from the floor including 6-of-7 from three-point range. Stephen Schott added 16 points and a game-high nine rebounds, while Derek King dished out five assists. Greg Badenshop led Ohio Northern with 26 points, while Nate Lieb added 14. Bart Hostetler grabbed seven rebounds and totaled six assists.
