Hilliard Lyons CEO James Allen '79 Featured in On Wall Street Magazine
November 30, 2005November 30, 2005, Greencastle, Ind. - James R. Allen, chairman and chief executive officer of Hilliard Lyons and 1979 graduate of DePauw University, is profiled in the latest issue of On Wall Street magazine. The piece begins, "Growing up, I had only a limited interest in investing or securities. I spent my early years in Louisville, Ky. My dad worked for General Electric in industrial sales. My parents were fairly conservative, with traditional Midwestern values that wore off on me. They had a positive impact on me."
Allen notes, "My first job was as a busboy at one of the restaurants in SeaWorld in Aurora, Ohio, during one summer in high school. When I graduated and started college, I worked three summers for the village of Hudson on the road crew, in the water plant and in the waste-disposal plant. They were good jobs and difficult to get, but they reinforced the value of an education. I majored in economics at DePauw University in Indiana and received an M.B.A. from Ohio State University."Back
