18th-ranked DePauw hangs on for 65-64 win

December 4, 2005, Memphis, Tenn. - DePauw guard Caitlin McGonigal hit a free throw with 5.1 seconds left and Rhodes' Crystal Jessee missed a layup at the buzzer and the 18th-ranked Tigers came away with a 65-64 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference win.DePauw improved to 6-1 overall and 2-0 in the SCAC with its fifth straight win, while Rhodes dropped to 3-3 overall and 1-1 in the conference. The Tigers led by as many as 15 in the second half at 54-39 before the Lynx went on an 8-0 run that closed the gap to seven with 8:24 remaining. Rhodes took its first lead of the second half at 62-60 on Taylor Cook's three-point play with 3:18 remaining. DePauw's Bridget Bailey tied the game with a bucket with 1:58 remaining before Cook hit a jumper with one minute left to put Rhodes ahead, 64-62. Liz Bondi tied the score at 64-64 with two free throws with 58.5 seconds left. Bailey then blocked Ashley Farrell's jumper and the Tigers recovered before McGonigal hit the game-winning free throw. Gretchen Haehl paced the Tigers with 18 followed by Bailey with a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds. Bondi also posted a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds as the Tigers held a 50-34 advantage on the boards. Cook paced Rhodes with 17 followed by Rachel Hettinger with 12, Farrell with 11 and Jessee with 10. Jessee added 10 rebounds for a double-double.
