DePauw Chamber Symphony Performs Monday Before Embarking on Tour of Western US

January 6, 2006, Greencastle, Ind. - The DePauw Chamber Symphony will perform a concert on Monday, January 9, at 7:30 p.m. in Kresge Auditorium of DePauw's Performing Arts Center. The event, which is free and open to the public, will be in anticipation of the all-undergraduate ensemble's Winter Term 2006 tour of the Western United States from January 12-22. The tour will include concerts in Denver, Phoenix, Los Angeles, and San Francisco.
Under the direction of Orcenith Smith (seen below right), the DePauw Chamber Symphony has traveled during DePauw's Winter Term since 1975. Previous tours have included concerts in Japan, Great Britain, Spain, France, Canada, Italy, Austria, the Midwest, Southeast and, Northeastern United States including concerts in Carnegie (Weill) Recital Hall, and Washington's Kennedy Center Terrace Theatre.
Major concert locations for the 2006 tour include the Kenneth King Center in Denver, Herbert Zipper Hall in Los Angeles, the Chandler (Arizona) Center for the Arts, and the Florence Gould Theater at the Legion of Honor in San Francisco. Repertoire will include music by Leonard Bernstein, Franz Josef Haydn, Aaron Copland, David Balakrishnan, Benjamin Britten and DePauw student composer, John Chittum.
