Fifth-ranked Tigers top Southwestern for 17th straight win

January 27, 2006, Greencastle, Ind. - Fifth-ranked DePauw extended its season win streak to 17 straight and its Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference home string to 22 consecutive victories after an 87-61 win over Southwestern. The Tigers improved to 18-1 overall and 8-0 in the SCAC, while Southwestern dropped to 8-11 and 3-5.
The Tigers put together a 27-4 run over a stretch of 11 minutes in the first half on the way to a 46-17 halftime lead. DePauw never trailed the rest of the way, extending the margin to as many as 40 in the second half. The Tigers shot a season-best 54.8 percent from the floor and were over the 50 percent mark in each half and held the Pirates to just 31.8 percent in the first half.
Kalei Lowes notched a career-high 18 points and hit 3-of-4 from three-point range, while Bridget Bailey matched her with 18 points on 9-of-9 shooting from the floor. Liz Bondi chipped in 15 in the win. Amanda Gordon paced the Pirates with 13 and Kristen Johnson added 10.
DePauw outrebounded Southwestern 33-21 with Lindsay Houin grabbing eight. Kendal George and Kelli Hill each hauled down three for the Pirates.
DePauw returns to action on Sunday when it hosts 22nd-ranked Trinity at 2 p.m. Trinity lost its first SCAC game of the season tonight as Rose-Hulman topped the Tigers, 53-51. Southwestern travels to Rose-Hulman on Sunday.Back
