Stewart named co-SCAC Player of the Week

February 14, 2006, Greencastle, Ind. - Senior guard Alex Stewart has been named Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Co-Player of the Week for games played from February 6-12. He shared the honor with Trinity's Mitch Walker.
Stewart scored four points in the final 3.4 seconds of regulation, including a three-pointer at the buzzer to force overtime in Friday's 76-69 loss at Centre. It was the third time this season that Stewart has hit a three-pointer in the final seconds to force overtime in games against Centre. He did it twice in Greencastle on Jan. 13 - hitting a three with six seconds remaining in regulation to force the first overtime. His 3-pointer with eight seconds remaining in the first overtime period forced an additional period against the Colonels.
In Sunday's 95-86 victory over Sewanee, Stewart matched a career-high with 32 points and established a new career best with 12 rebounds. For the week, he averaged 26.0 points and 7.5 rebounds per game and shot 60.0% (15-25) from the field, including 50.0% (7-14) from three-point range. Stewart was also 15 of 17 (88.2%) from the free-throw line.
On the season, Stewart is averaging 15.0 points per game (10th in the SCAC) and is shooting 51.1% (ninth overall and best among all SCAC guards) from the field. He is second in the league in three-point field goal percentage (48.6%) and leads the league in three-pointers made (67).
DePauw is 11-12 overall and 7-6 in the SCAC and hosts Rose-Hulman on Saturday, February 18, at 8 p.m.Back
