February 28, 2006

gordon walters.jpgFebruary 28, 2006, Greencastle, Ind. - "Asbury Towers Retirement Community invites the public to attend an art show by local well-known artist Gordon Walters with the opening reception to be held on Sunday, March 5 at 4-6 p.m.," notes today's edition of Greencastle's Banner-Graphic of the professor emeritus of modern languages (French). "Walters retired from DePauw University after teaching there for 32 years. His activity as an artist is inspired by his mentor, Cincinnati watercolorist J. P. Olmes, with whom he studied when Walters was in his teens."

The article notes, "His art, done in watercolor, pastel, and other media, has been shown in the Wabash Valley Exhibition at the Sheldon Swope Museum in Terre Haute; at Arts Illiana in Terre Haute; at the Covered Bridge Art Gallery in Rockville, where he was awarded a purchase prize this past summer; at the Brown County Art Guild; at Eagle Creek Park in Indianapolis."

The exhibit will remain on display until March 31 at Asbury Towers, located at 102 W. Poplar Street in Greencastle. Read the complete article at the newspaper's Web site.
