Jazz Combos Perform Wednesday; Jazz Jam at the Duck Thursday

March 20, 2006

March 20, 2006, Greencastle, Ind. - The DePauw University School of Music will present two events that feature the talented musicians in its jazz program this week. On Wednesday, March 22 at 7:30 p.m. at Kresge Auditorium, the DePauw Jazz Combos will perform a concert that is free and open to the public. Featuring compositions by such jazz luminaries as Miles Davis, Joe Henderson, and Herbie Hancock, the ensembles are led by DePauw Professors Lennie Foy and Jack Helsley.

The following evening, Thursday, March 23, Professor Foy (seen at right) will lead an open jazz jamlennie-foy.jpg session with his charismatic trumpet playing at Walden Inn's Fluttering Duck as a part of DePauw Jazz at the Duck. He will be joined by bassist and fellow professor Paul Musser in another program that is free and open to all. The session begins at 9 p.m. and concludes about two hours later.

After a one-week spring break hiatus, the jazz series will return on April 6 with Grammy Award-winning tenor saxophonist Chip McNeill and his quartet. The DePauw Jazz Combos can also be heard as a part of DePauw Jazz at the Duck on May 4.
