Tigers split series with Centre

March 26, 2006, Danville, Ky. - DePauw split its Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference series with Centre after splitting Sunday's doubleheader. Centre won the first game by a 7-2 score, but the Tigers took the nightcap, 9-7. DePauw is now 9-8 overall and 2-2 in the SCAC, while the Colonels are 7-11 overall and 2-2 in the conference.
Centre jumped out to a 4-0 lead with one in the first and three in the second. DePauw closed the gap to 4-2 with one each in the third and fourth innings, but the Colonels added two in the fourth and one in the fifth for the win.
Jeremy Dickinson paced the Tigers with three of the team's seven hits, while Michael Pangallo, Ben Jeffers and Chase Ezell each had two of Centre's 10 hits. Andy Placido picked up the win and improved to 3-2 by allowing just one earned run in pitching the seven-inning complete game. Bill Metzinger dropped to 1-1 with the loss.
The Tigers fell behind in the nightcap as Centre scored once in the third, but DePauw took the lead with one in the fourth and two in the fifth. The Colonels regained the lead at 5-3 with four in the fifth before the Tigers scored two each in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings. Centre totaled two in the ninth, but the Tigers held on for the win.
DePauw totaled 13 hits with Dickinson, Zach Harris and Greg DeBeer each finishing with three and Chris Newman adding a pair. Harris, Matt Kleine and Newman each drove in two runs. Pangallo led Centre with three of the Colonels' 12 hits, while Jeffers, Eric Moore, Kyle Rakes and Andy Greer each adding two.
Jeremy Alland picked up the win with six innings of work and improved to 1-0 , while Brian Scott picked up his first save of the year. Joe Mitchell dropped to 0-1 for Centre.
DePauw travels to Emory on Tuesday for a 3 p.m. contest.Back
