DePauw splits Saturday SCAC tournament games; faces Trinity for title on Sunday

April 29, 2006, Sewanee, Tenn. - After splitting their two games on Saturday, the 31-9 Tigers face Trinity on Sunday for the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference title. DePauw lost to Trinity by an 11-3 score before blanking Hendrix 8-0 in today's final game. DePauw and Trinity square off at 11 a.m. CDT against Trinity and the Tigers need to win two to capture their first SCAC championship. Sunday's game (s) will be aired by WGRE.
DePauw jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first against Trinity on doubles by Kristy Mahon and Jessica Krueger, but Trinity scored one in the first, two in the second, four in the third and one in the fourth to take the lead for good.
The Tigers collected just four hits off of Trinity's Jillian Degerness and Melissa Johnson, while Trinity totaled 15 hits led by Jamie Williams and Mandy Chastang with three each and Kate Wright with two. Degerness improved to 9-3, while Lauren Curosh dropped to 18-8.
In the win over Hendrix, DePauw scored two in the fourth and three each in the fifth and sixth to claim the victory. The Tigers totaled 13 hits with Lauren Rees, Krueger, Carolyn Bartlett, Rachel Gill and Chelsy Patterson each finishing with two. Katherine Veatch improved to 13-1 by allowing just four hits and striking out six with no walks. Kim Tallent dropped to 11-11 with the loss.Back
