May 1, 2006

Daniel Reck.jpgMay 1, 2006, Greencastle, Ind. - A new composition by 2003 DePauw University graduate Daniel M. Reck, An American Fanfare, will be premiered by University Schools Band on the campus of Ball State University this Sunday, May 7. The concert, in Pruis Auditorium on the Muncie campus, begins at 2 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

Band director Brad Meyerdierks "has been asking me to write a piece for the band for over a year," says Reck, who was a computer science major and music minor at DePauw. "It is very exciting to explore music with these talented young people."

Meyerdierks adds, "The piece evokes a very Americana feeling with an almost Copland-esque sound."

Daniel Reck will also conduct the University Schools Band -- which is made up of students from the Burris Laboratory School and the Indiana Academy for Science, Mathematics, and Humanities -- in Sunday's performance.  Reck works at the latter institution as a student life counselor.
