DePauw's men open NCAA play with 4-0 win over Denison

May 6, 2006, Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw, ranked 12th in Division III, blanked 21st-ranked Denison, 4-0, in NCAA Division III men's tennis first-round action and advanced to Sunday's noon second-round match against Kalamazoo.

DePauw earned the doubles point after winning at the number two and three spots. DePauw's number two team of Billy Elliott and Bryan Heck defeated Denison's Eric Messick and Jordan Buehler by an 8-3 score, while the Big Red's number one duo of Randy Lofgren and Kevin Newman topped the Tigers' Jeff Zanchelli and Kortney Keith, 8-1.

DePauw's number three doubles tandem of Scott Swanson and Evan Webeler battled back from a 6-2 deficit to defeat Denison's James Davis and Jason Arensein by an 8-6 score.

In singles play, Zanchelli defeated Tom Hodgkiss-Lilly 6-2, 6-1 at number five before Webeler beat Buehler 6-2, 6-1 at the number one slot and Swanson clinched the match with a 6-3, 6-2 win at number three over James Davis.
