Kalamazoo advances to NCAA second round with win over Washington

May 6, 2006, Greencastle, Ind. - The 13th-ranked Kalamazoo Hornets advanced to the NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Championship second round after defeating Washington University by a 4-2 score. Kalamazoo improved to 17-8 and faces DePauw in Sunday's second-round game at noon. The Bears finished the season at 18-3.

Washington won the doubles points by winning all three matches. Ari Rosenthal and Charlie Cutler defeated Julian Seelan and Tim Hubbard  by an 8-6 score at number one, while Trevis Bowman and Nirmal Choradia beat Drew Brown and Dave Atallah, 8-3, at the number two spot. At number three doubles, Zack Fayne and Chris Hoeland beat Alec Kempster and Luke Marker, 8-6.

Kempster tied the score at number three singles with a 6-2, 6-2 win over William McMahan, while Hubbard beat Choradia at number four by a 6-3, 6-1 count. Marker defeated Bowman by a 6-2, 6-2 score at number six singles, while Atallah clinched the match with a 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 win over Cutler at number two. Rosenthal won by default over Seelan at the number one spot after the two split their first two sets and Seelan was leading 4-1 in the third.
