DePauw tops Kalamazoo; advances to Division III quarterfinals

May 7, 2006, Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw, ranked 12th in Division III, advanced to the NCAA Division III quarterfinals following a 5-2 win over 13th-ranked Kalamazoo. DePauw improved to 21-6, while Kalamazoo finished its season at 17-9.
The Tigers will be making their third Division III quarterfinal appearance with the other trips coming in 1990 and 2000. Quarterfinal play begins on May 17 at the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Va.
DePauw won the doubles point with wins at all three flights. Jeff Zanchelli and Kortney Keith defeated Julian Seelan and Tim Hubbard by an 8-3 score at number one before Scott Swanson and Evan Webeler beat Alec Kempster and Luke Marker, 8-5, at number three. DePauw's number two team of Billy Elliott and Bryan Heck then defeated the Hornets' Drew Brown and Dave Attallah, 8-7 (7-4).
In singles play, DePauw's Scott Sauer defeated Kalamazoo's Marker 6-2, 6-1 at number six before the Hornets' Seelan beat Webeler 7-6 (10-8), 6-3 at the number one spot. Heck posted a 6-2, 6-4 win over Hubbard at fourth singles and Swanson sealed the Tigers' victory at number three singles with a 6-3, 1-6, 6-2 victory over Kempster.
Keith defeated Attallah at number two singles by a 6-1, 4-6, 6-1 score and Kalamazoo's Matt Wise closed out the match with a 7-5, 7-6 (7-4) win over Zanchelli.
