Performances with Indianapolis Philharmonic and Kenny Rogers on Prof's Weekend Schedule

June 8, 2006, Greencastle, Ind. - Central Indiana audiences will have three opportunities in the next few days to enjoy performances featuring Orcenith Smith, professor of music at DePauw University. Tonight at 7 p.m., Smith will conduct the Indianapolis Philharmonic Orchestra in a free concert at Indianapolis' Garfield Park. Tomorrow and Saturday, the professor will conduct the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra in performances featuring Kenny Rogers. Those shows will take place at Circle Theatre in downtown Indianapolis.
Tonight's performance -- part of the "Great Music for the Great Outdoors" series -- is sponsored by Indy Parks and will take place in the MacAllister Center at Garfield Park. The concert will feature music by Beethoven, Handel, Faure, Sibelius, Henry Mancini, Sousa and John Williams. Performed by the Indianapolis Philharmonic, selections will include music from Jurassic Park, Handel's Water Music, Sibelius' Finlandia and Sousa's Stars and Stripes Forever.
When Kenny Rogers sings with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra Friday and Saturday, the concert will open with music to welcome the country star performed by the ISO under the baton of Professor Smith.Back
