orcenith smith.jpgJune 30, 2006, Greencastle, Ind. - Professor Orcenith Smith of the DePauw University School of Music is in Europe where he will take part in the Vienna International Youth and Music Festival, July 1-4. Smith will be on a five-member international adjudicating team rating ensembles from all over the world that perform in the festival.

Contestants will come from a wide range of countries, including Japan, South Africa, Turkey, China, Germany, Greece, Denmark, Canada and Ukraine. Smith's adjudicating colleagues come from Austria, Great Britain and Australia.

"The Vienna Youth and Music Festival is in its 32nd year," ec.jpgnotes the professor. "The groups that come here know the festival's tradition and seek validation from the great city of music that their music-making is the very best. Because of that tradition, the level of focus and high standard of workmanship can bring about outstanding performances. It is an honor for me to be invited again to evaluate these extraordinary efforts by these young musicians, their directors, and their parents."

Orcenith Smith recently served as guest conductor at the third annual Indiana University-Southeast String Clinic. Read more in this previous story.
