Poetry and Music Come Together at Faculty Recital Wednesday Night
September 1, 2006September 1, 2006, Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw faculty members Keith Tonne, tenor, and Amanda Hopson, piano, will perform Die schöne Müllerin on Wednesday, September 6, in the Performing Arts Center's Thompson Recital Hall. The song cycle contains 20 movements of Wilhelm Müller’s poetry set to music, and tells the tragic story of a young man who falls in love with the miller’s daughter. The performance will begin at 7:30 p.m. and is presented free of charge.
Composed by Franz Schubert and published in 1824, Die schöne Müllerin is one of the earliest song cycles to be widely performed and recorded. Wednesday's recital will also include Nancy Wegerson, associate director and interim coordinator of Winter Term, providing additional narration of Müller’s poetry.
