Smokey Robinson and the Miracles Give Little 500 Weekend a Rolling Start
April 26, 1968
April 26, 1968, Greencastle, Ind. - Approximately 2,000 members of the DePauw University packed Bowman Gymnasium for a performance by Smokey Robinson and the Miracles. Today's event, held as part of the Spokes Spectacular, featured many of the group's biggest hits, including Ooh Baby Baby, The Tracks of My Tears, and Going to a Go-Go. The group also covered The Beatles' Yesterday. (photo at left, from the DePauw concert, from the 1969 Mirage yearbook)
As the Mirage later reported, "Carried away by the beat, the more eager listeners were seen rocking in their seats, dancing in the aisles, and slowly heading toward the stage."
Tomorrow night, the American Breed will perform at DePauw's Little 500 Dance. A $5 ticket covers the admission for both that show, and tonight's concert.Back
