Hertel earns conference and national honors

hertelaction.jpgNovember 8, 2006, Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw senior defensive end Dustin Hertel was named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week and to the Team of the Week after his performance in the Tigers' 24-14 win over Austin.

Hertel led the Tigers with a career-high 16 tackles including six solos. He had 4.5 tackles for losses of 28 yards including 4 sacks for 26 yards in loss. He also forced a fumble and recovered one in addition to two hurries.

With the four sacks, Hertel tied the DePauw single-season record of 14 set by Doug Lowery in 1989. His 35 career sacks is already a DePauw record.

The SCAC honor was the third for Hertel this season and the seventh in his career, while he has been named to the Team of the Week twice this year and four times in his career. 

The Tigers travel to Wabash on Saturday for the annual Monon Bell game.
