Tigers open season with win over Earlham in Midway Classic

November 18, 2006, Chicago, Ill. - Stephen Schott paced the Tigers with 23 points and Mike Moore dished out 13 assists as DePauw opened the 2006-07 season with an 85-80 win over Earlham in the Midway Classic. DePauw advanced to Sunday's 5 p.m. CST championship game where they'll face the University of Chicago. That game can be heard live on WGRE.
After leading 42-38 at the intermission, the Tigers scored 10 straight points midway through the second half to extend their lead to 63-47 with just over 10 minutes remaining. The Quakers closed to within one with 3:12 to play, but the Tigers scored the next five and held on for the victory.
Schott posted a double-double with a game-high 14 rebounds in addition to his 23 points, while Moore also recorded a double-double with 16 points along with his 13 assists. Matt McDonald also added 18 points in the win.
Markous Jewett paced the Quakers with 30 points and 10 rebounds, while Tristan Gregory and Nick Welsh each added 10 rebounds.
The Tigers shot 54.1 percent from the floor, while holding Earlham to 45.2 percent. Earlham outrebounded the Tigers 37-34 and committed 13 turnovers to DePauw's 11.Back
