Tigers open SCAC play with win over Centre

December 2, 2006, Greencastle, Ind. - Liz Bondi scored 30 points in 21 minutes and DePauw shot 56 percent from the field in a 101-48 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference win over visiting Centre. DePauw, ranked seventh by D3hoops.com and eighth in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches' Poll, improved to 5-1 overall and 1-0 in the SCAC, while Centre dropped to 2-4 overall and 0-1 in the SCAC.
The win was the Tigers fourth straight this season and extended their SCAC win streak to 17 and their SCAC home streak to 27.
DePauw used an early 18-2 run to break open the game in the first half on the way to a 60-19 halftime advantage. The Tigers shot 64.9 percent over the opening 20 minutes, while limiting Centre to just 33.3 percent.
Bondi hit 11 of 12 from the floor and all eight free throws in leading all scorers. Emily Marshall added a career-best 14 points and Gretchen Haehl followed with 12. Marshall and Meghan Warner each grabbed six rebounds as DePauw held a 39-29 edge on the boards.
Suzy Doughty dished out six assists and had four steals, while Andrea Travelstead led the way with five steals.
Chelsea Goodman paced the Colonels with 14 points and, along with Keonia Masterson, hauled down six rebounds.
The Tigers travel to Monmouth on Saturday, December 9, while Centre travels to Spalding on December 13.Back
