Phil Wendel 1986.jpgDecember 5, 2006, Greencastle, Ind. - Tim Vieke and Phil Wendel -- both 1986 graduates of DePauw University -- are among 13 men "named to the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame's 2007 men's Silver Anniversary Team, which recognizes outstanding high school graduates from 25 years earlier. They will be honored March 21 as part of the hall's annual men's induction dinner," reports today's Indianapolis Star. (Wendel is pictured at left)

Others on the team include Scott Skiles, who was a teammate of Wendel's at Plymouth High School and now coaches the NBA's Chicago Bulls. The Chicago Tribune focused on the two men's enduring friendship in an April story. During their senior season, Plymouth became "the smallest school since Milan in 1954 to claim a state title before Indiana adopted a multiclass format in 1998," writes Pat McKee.

A Star synopsis of Vieke, who played high school ball at Vincennes, notes: "Averaged 20 points as a senior. A starter on the 1981 state champions. A four-year player at DePauw. Now coach at Vincennes Rivet.

Of Wendel, the article states: "Averaged 17.2 points as a senior in helping Pilgrims to state title. 1982 Trester Award winner. An NCAA Division III All-American at DePauw, where he set career records for steals and assists."
