Tigers Battle Butler as DePauw Celebrates Old Gold Day

September 30, 1972, Greencastle, Ind. - There was sunshine, a balloon-filled parade and a big crowd on hand as DePauw University celebrated Old Gold Day 1972. An admissions film that was shot over the homecoming weekend provides a glimpse of the festivities, as well as some of the football action as Coach Tom Mont and the Tigers battled Butler University at Blackstock Stadium. The weekend also featured the dedication of DePauw's new Science and Mathematics Center. The event included a speech by William D. Ruckelshaus, administrator of the United States Environmental Protection Agency. Renowned scientist Percy Lavon Julian, a 1920 DePauw graduate, received the inaugural McNaughton Medal for Public Service.
