Fifth-ranked Tigers advance to Surf N' Slam title game

December 29, 2006, San Diego, Calif. - The fifth-ranked women's basketball team improved to 10-1 and advanced to the San Diego Surf N' Slam Classic championship game following a 69-59 win over 21st-ranked Medaille. The win was the Tigers' ninth straight, while the Mavericks dropped to 8-2.

DePauw fell behind 6-0 in the opening two minutes, but scored 10 straight to take the lead. Medaille used an 8-0 later in the half to take a 28-25 advantage before the Tigers outscored the Mavericks 10-3 over the final three minutes of the half on the way to a 35-31 halftime lead. DePauw's 10-2 run early in the second half pushed the lead to double digits and the Tigers never trailed the rest of the way.
Liz Bondi posted a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds, while Cassie Pruzin added 16 points and four rebounds. Carissa Ferrucci led Meadaille with 15 points, while Amanda Walling and Marisa Clark each scored 13.
The Tigers shot a season-low 37.1 percent from the floor but hit 8-of-18 from three-point range and held the Mavericks to 37.3 percent from the field. DePauw held a 43-37 advantage on the boards.
