Dallas Morning News Notes Link Between Coach Bob Knight & DePauw

January 3, 2007

Royce Waltman.jpgJanuary 3, 2007, Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw University's basketball program has intersected with the career of legendary coach Bob Knight, notes a Dallas Morning News summary of the many players, coaches and programs that Knight has interacted with over his 41 years pacing the sidelines. A long summary of Knight's colleagues is printed as a sidebar to a story marking the coach's 880th victory Monday night, which makes him the all-time leader in that category in Division I men's basketball.

In a listing of "some of Knight's former assistants and players who became head coaches," the Morning News' Tim McMahon includes Royce Waltman (seen at top), who assisted Knight at Indiana University before taking -- as the newspaper points out -- the head coaching job at DePauw in 1988. Waltman is now leading the hoops program at Division I Indiana State University.
