January 5, 2007, Greencastle, Ind. - "DePauw sophomore guard Cassie Pruzin (Crown Point) made the all-tournament team as the Tigers won the San Diego Surf 'N' Slam title," notes today's edition of the Times of Northwest Indiana. DePauw, 11-1 and ranked #5 in NCAA Division III, "won their 10th straight in beating host and No. 15 Point Loma Nazarene for the title. Pruzin scored 15 in the championship game," writes Mike Nieto. Senior forward Liz Bondi, who was the tournament's most valuable player, has been named Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week.
Meanwhile, Indiana's Noblesville Ledger reports, "After missing five weeks with a broken hand Brian Oilar returned to the DePauw basketball lineup last week to score 17 points in two games in the Tampa Bay Shootout. Oilar, a sophomore from Noblesville, had nine points, three rebounds and an assist in 25 minutes for the Tigers (9-2) in Saturday's 85-77 overtime championship game loss to Hamilton College."
Both teams are back in action tonight at the University of the South (Sewanee). The women's game tips off at 6 p.m., with the men's contest following at approximately 8. Both games can be heard live online via student radio station WGRE.
