Chicago Prep School Basketball Standout Eyes DePauw
January 26, 2007January 26, 2007, Greencastle, Ind. - "Senior Angie Nizio has rewritten the record book at Northside Prep," begins a story in today's Chicago Sun-Times. "The 5-8 guard played varsity basketball as a freshman, broke the Mustangs' career record for steals as a sophomore and set school career records for points, assists and three-pointers as a junior." Mike Lansu writes, "Nizio, who has a 4.66 grade-point average on a 5.0 scale, will play college basketball at the University of Chicago or DePauw."
Nizio -- who has scored 1,643 points in her high school career -- is averaging 13 points per game this season, along with seven rebounds, four assists and four steals.
Her coach, Mike Heavey, declares, "She's been our building block for four years. She would come into open gyms after she was accepted to the school, and she would play with the varsity kids. She was playing with seniors in eighth grade and went toe-to-toe. We saw something special and just built from there." The coach adds, "Even with her individual accomplishments, she is constantly working to benefit her classmates and teammates. She puts aside individual glory for the success of the team."Back
