DePauw leads SCAC Men's Swimming and Diving Championships after day one

February 8, 2007, Crawfordsville, Ind. - With 333 points, DePauw has taken the early lead over Trinity's 254 and Centre's 218. Sewanee is fourth with 204, followed by Colorado College (173), Hendrix (100), Rhodes (80) and Austin (45).

DePauw's 200-yard freestyle relay of John Cook, Kyle Kerrigan, Greg Nowak and Rob Alexander won in an NCAA provisional time of 1:24.28. Evan O'Dea of Trinity won the 500 free in 4:44.15, while DePauw's Brock Sishc won the 200 individual medley in 1:58.98.

Alexander won the 50 free for the third straight year in 20.68 seconds which in an automatic qualifying time and established a DePauw school record. Cook finished second and notched a provisional time of 20.87 seconds, while Centre's Jimmy Tatgenhorst was third and swam a provisional time in the prelims.

DePauw's Gib Wallace, Dan DeGeus, Michael Young and Cook concluded the evening by winning the 400 medley relay in 3:35.10. During the afternoon, Trinity's Ryan Cook won one-meter diving for the second time in three years with 441.95 points.

Competition continues through Saturday evening at Crawfordsvillle High School with diving taking place at Wabash College.
