NCAA Tournament Play Begins Friday with Women Hosting Transylvania, Men vs. Whitworth in St. Louis

DSC_0865.jpgFebruary 27, 2007, Greencastle, Ind. - "They're the best team in this area," says Greg Todd, women's basketball coach at Transylvania, of DePauw University, his team's first round opponent in the NCAA Division III basketball tournament. "They've got a lot of weapons." Todd is quoted in a story in the Lexington Herald-Leaderpreviewing Friday's game, which will be played at DePauw. The Tigers are 25-3 and ranked #11 in the nation; Transylvania is 19-8 and making its first-ever tournament appearance.

Meanwhile, "The Northwest Conference champion Whitworth men's basketball team (23-3) will play DePauw from Greencastle, Ind., in the first round of the NCAA Division III tournament Friday at Washington University in St. Louis," reports the Seattle Times.  DePauw is 22-5 heading into the game; Whitworth is 23-3.DSC_2338.jpg

Both DePauw games tip off Friday at 7 p.m., Greencastle time.

DePauw's Neal Fieldhouse will host first and second round games of the women's tourney. General admission tickets for each night are $6, while senior citizens, students and children will be admitted for $3. Children under two years of age will be admitted free of charge as will DePauw students by showing their student ID card. Tickets go on sale when the gates open at 4 p.m. on Friday and 6 p.m. Saturday.
