Prof. Randy Salman's Condition Blue Brings Jazz to Walden Inn Thursday

Randy Salman.jpgFebruary 27, 2007, Greencastle, Ind. - The month of March will start with swing at Walden Inn Thursday night, as Randy Salman, director of jazz studies at DePauw University, joins Condition Blue for a live performance Thursday, March 1. The music will begin at 9 p.m. in the Fluttering Duck. Like all DePauw Jazz at the Duck programs, the concert is free and open to the public.

Currently a saxophonist with the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra, Salman has performed with such noted jazz artists as Quincy Jones, Tony Bennett, Joe Williams, Clark Terry and Louis Bellson. His quintet, Condition Blue, specializes in the classic Blue Note recordings of the 1950s and 1960s by artists including Joe Henderson,Hank Mobley and Kenny Dorham.

Thursday's performance will feature trumpeter Jeff Helgesen, pianist Michael Stryker, drummer Jeff walden inn logo.jpgMagby and DePauw professor and bassist Paul Musser.

Each Thursday, DePauw Jazz at the Duck features area performers as well as DePauw's talented music students. Continuing through May 10, the series provides free opportunities to enjoy innovative and entertaining jazz artists. Upcoming highlights include the Dave Miller Trio (March 8), 3rd Man featuring Jack Helsley (March 15), and the Paul Musser Quartet (March 22).
