Both DePauw Teams Ready for NCAA Tournaments, Which Begin Tonight

March 2, 2007

DSC_0865.jpgMarch 2, 2007, Greencastle, Ind. - "The DePauw women's basketball team continues to make a habit of reaching the Division III NCAA Tournament," begins Jeff Rabjohns' column in today's Indianapolis Star. "The ninth-ranked Tigers (25-3) are in the NCAA Tournament for the fourth year in a row and the eighth time in the past 12 years. Behind senior forward Liz Bondi, a two-time Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year, DePauw's seniors set a school record for wins by one class, going 103-15."

Rabjohns adds, "The Tigers, though, lean on more than Bondi. Coach Kris Huffman's system has 12 players averaging at least 10 minutes, none more than Bondi's 24 ... Huffman, a former Iowa Miss Basketball, has been named conference Coach of the Year seven times in 14 years at DePauw, five in the school's nine seasons in the SCAC. DePauw hosts first- and second-round NCAA Tournament games, starting tonight against Transylvania. Two wins would give Huffman huffman031006.jpg(298-82) 300 career victories."

"We've been fortunate to have good people in our program," Coach Huffman tells the Star. "We talk about our team chemistry, our unselfish play and our depth as key factors."

The story notes that "The DePauw men's basketball team also reached the Division III NCAA Tournament. The Tigers (22-5) play tonight at Washington (Mo.) University against Whitworth (23-3)."
