DePauw sweeps doubleheader; improves to 23-3

April 7, 2007, Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw improved to 23-3 overall and 3-1 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference following a doubleheader sweep of visiting Centre. The Tigers won the opener, 3-2, and took the second game by a 13-5 count. Centre dropped to 14-15 overall and 1-3 in the conference.
DePauw took a 2-0 lead in the second inning of the opener as Carolyn Bartlett scored from third when Laura Schlensker reached base on an outfield error. Schlensker then scored on Erin Ketchem's double. The Tigers added one in the third when Rachel Gill doubled home Kathryn Tetrick.
Centre's runs came in the fourth when Cate Gurthrie tripled with two outs and Laura Hufnagle followed with a homer.
Bartlett and Ketchem each had two of DePauw's nine hits, while four different Colonels collected one hit each. Megan Soultz struck out seven on the way to the four-hitter as she improved to 10-2 with the win. Carolyn Besl dropped to 2-5 with the loss.
DePauw needed just five innings to collect the win in the nightcap as it banged out 15 hits in helping Lauren Curosh improve to 9-0. Charlotte Jones suffered the loss for Centre and dropped to 5-4.
Kristy Mahon reached base all five times and collected four hits in the win, while Gill totaled three hits and drove in five including two on a second inning homer. Chelsy Patterson and Jessica Krueger each finished with two hits.
Hufnagle led Centre with three hits, while Laura Willett, Jenny Jones and Monica Vonderbrink each had two of the Colonels' 11 hits.
DePauw travels to Rhodes College for SCAC doubleheaders on April 14-15.
