Tigers Win Opener of NCAA Softball Championship, 4-2

May 18, 2007, Salem, Va. - DePauw University continued its winning ways as the 2007 NCAA Division III Softball Championship began today, defeating Moravian College by a 4-2 score. The Tigers, now 37-5, move on to face No. 1 seed Linfield tomorrow at 4 p.m. The game can be heard live via student radio station WGRE.
A sacrifice fly by Laura Schlensker scored Carolyn Bartlett to give the Tigers the lead. The next batter, Chelsy Patterson, singled in pinch runner Erin Ketchem to build DePauw's lead to 4-2.
Freshman All-American Megan Soultz pitched a complete game, allowing one earned run and seven hits.
Moravian falls to 35-6 on the season.
The double elimination tournament continues through Monday's
championship game with a second championship game scheduled for Tuesday, if necessary.
