Gill named SCAC Player of the Year; Skrenta shares Coach of the Year honors

gill_rachel_042807.jpgMay 19, 2007, Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw sophomore catcher Rachel Gill (pictured) became the second straight DePauw player to earn Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year honors in voting by the conference's eight head coaches.


Gill joins teammate Carolyn Bartlett who earned the honor last year. Leading the Tigers into the NCAA Division III Finals with a .486 batting average, Gill established school and SCAC records with 51 RBI. She also leads the conference in batting average, slugging percentage, on-base percentage, total bases, hits and doubles.


Joining Gill on the all-SCAC First Team are freshman pitcher Megan Soultz, sophomore outfielder Chelsy Patterson and senior desginated player Laura Schlensker. Second team selections include sophomore outfielder Bartlett and freshman outfielder Kaitlyn Davitt. Pitcher Lauren Curosh and first baseman Jessica Krueger earned honorable mention honors.


Head Coach Bonnie Skrenta, who has led the Tigers to their first NCAA appearance in school history and their first trip to the NCAA finals was voted SCAC Co-Coach of the Year. In five seasons, her teams have posted a 107-80-1 record including a 37-5 mark this season and 68-15 over the last two years.
