Back-and-Forth Monon Battle Ends With Bell Returning to Crawfordsville
November 12, 1949
November 12, 1949, Greencastle, Ind. - A football season of disappointment ended with more of the same today as DePauw University fell to Wabash College in the annual battle for the Monon Bell, 25-21. The Tigers overcame a 13-0 deficit and led 21-19. But a blocked kick by the Little Giants followed by a touchdown proved to be decisive.
A late DePauw drive ended with an interception, meaning the Tigers must return the Bell a year after reclaiming it from their rivals.
DePauw finishes its season with a 1-7 record. Wabash ends up at 5-2-1, following a tie and two losses at the beginning of the fall with five consecutive victories.
