Gwen Bottoms to Host Benefit for Salvadoran Youth

November 15, 2007, Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw University's first lady, Gwen Bottoms, will host a "Benefit Tea with Harp and Heart" this Sunday, November 18, reports Greencastle's Banner-Graphic. "The benefit will raise funds for the education of poor rural Salvadoran high school and university students who have pledged to return to their own poverty stricken communities to help educate the next generation of El Salvador."
The item continues, "The tea will feature harpist Harriet Moore, a DePauw music professor and guests will have the opportunity to purchase Salvadoran artifacts. A DePauw Winter Service team will deliver a presentation on the Salvadoran trip in January." This benefit for the 'Youth Leadership Campaign' in Suchitoto, Cuscatlan, El Salvador is managed through the non-profit CRC (Comite de Reconstruccion y Desarrollo Economico Social de Comunidades de Schitoto) and supported by CoCoDA (Companion Community Development Alternatives, 609 East 29th St., Indianapolis). CoCoDA has pledged to support ten high school and eleven university students in the Suchitoto area who promise to contribute to their communities after their studies."
