DePauw Band to Pay Tribute to the Late Prof. Dan Hanna '47 at Sunday Concert

Dan Hanna 5.jpgNovember 16, 2007, Greencastle, Ind. - The legacy of Dan Hanna, professor emeritus of music and director emeritus of University bands at DePauw, will be celebrated this Sunday, December 18. The final concert of the fall semester by the DePauw University Band is titled "In Celebration of Dan Hanna, DePauw Director of Bands (1952-1988)," and begins at 3 p.m. in the Green Center for the Performing Arts' Kresge Auditorium. The program is presented free of charge and is open to the public.

Dan Hanna, who earned an A.B. from DePauw in 1947 and an M.A. from the University the following year, died November 6 at Putnam County Hospital. He was 84.

Dan Hanna 1.jpg"It is fitting that we honor a man who touched so many lives at DePauw and throughout the Putnam County community by celebrating his musical contributions, as well as the love he had for teaching music and for this University," says Craig Paré, director of the DePauw Band.

The concert will feature music by Alfred Reed, Morton Gould, David R. Gillingham, J.B. Singelée, John Philip Sousa, Ira Hearshen, Carl Nielsen, and Howard Hanson.
