Sixth-ranked DePauw Loses to Seventh-ranked Messiah

December 21, 2007, Cancun, Mexico - Sixth-ranked DePauw shot just 26.6 percent from the field and committed 18 turnovers on the way to a 61-47 loss to seventh-ranked Messiah at the Caribbean Hoops Showdown at the Moon Palace Resort. The Tigers dropped to 7-2 on the season, while Messiah improved to 10-1.

The lead changed hands seven times and there were two ties in the opening 17 minutes of the contest, but Messiah closed the first half with a 9-2 run and took a 29-25 lead into the intermission.

The Falcons extended the lead to double digits with eight minutes left and the Tigers could get no closer than nine the rest of the way.

DePauw finished with its worst shooting game in five seasons despite hitting 6-of-17 from three-point range. The Falcons connected on 43.8 percent including 50 percent in the second half

Cassie Pruzin paced the Tigers with 18 points, four assists and four steals, while Jenna Fernandez grabbed nine rebounds. DePauw held a 44-39 advantage on the boards and grabbed 23 offensive rebounds which they convered into 17 points.

Nikki Lobach led Messiah with 26 points, while Ashley Brooks grabbed nine rebounds.

DePauw returns to action on Saturday, December 29, when it hosts Ohio Northern at 3 p.m.
